Ecoustic™ board grader

Sort timber for density and stiffness and assess random dimension, random length boards in green or dry condition.

An innovative way to grade timber

Ecoustic(TM) graderSound waves emitted from the board following impact with a mechanical hammer are analysed in conjunction with the boards' density to determine stiffness (MoE). The boards' density is determined by its weight and volume. Weight is captured as the board moves along the processing chain over a weigh bridge. Volume is measured by a laser measurement system.

Maximise your bottom line

  • Maximise production efficiency by grading boards for stiffness at the start of production and avoid unnecessary processing costs
  • Sort boards for density which enables efficient kiln drying, minimising drying variability and energy consumption
  • Fully automated requiring minimal operator control or training
  • Increased timber grading speeds compared to traditional mechanical graders
  • Board measurement system can check saw tolerance as every boards dimensions are measured and captured
  • Installed into a standard lugged processing chain which means no requirement for additional in-feed and out-feed conveying system or additional floor space
  • Low operating and maintenance costs
  • Collects and stores information for every board graded which gives excellent traceability for production tallying and audit
  • Stored information can be utilised to analyse log resource

A quality robust machine packed with features

  • Innovative, accurate and robust design of hardware and mechanical parts
  • Industrial computer, LCD monitor and control system all housed in a stand alone dust proof cabinet
  • Spray marking system (grade colour marked on end of board)
  • Internet based remote access
  • Serial, ethernet or digital output communication to existing PLC and/or tallying system
